Restoring Vision, Transforming Lives: Old Mutual Zimbabwe’s Eye Camp

At Old Mutual, we recognise that vision is one of life’s greatest gifts, connecting us to the world and those around us. However, numerous senior Zimbabweans face eyesight challenges such as cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. These conditions, often caused by aging, can severely impair vision, and many elderly individuals in low-income households struggle to access the necessary care due to financial constraints. To address this, Old Mutual Zimbabwe partnered with the Eye Institute to improve eye health for the elderly in marginalized communities. During our week-long Eye Camp, we performed an average of 15 surgeries per day, providing life-changing care to those most in need. This initiative underscores our commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and ensuring access to essential healthcare.
Restoring Vision, Renewing Hope

Through our Eye Camp in Mutare, in collaboration with Eye Institute Zimbabwe, we were able to restore the vision of pensioners by providing essential cataract removal surgeries. This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 10: Reduced Inequality, by ensuring access to quality eye care for underserved communities.

Join Us in Empowering Communities and Uplifting Lives in Zimbabwe

This initiative has brought hope and healing to many lives, as exemplified by Mrs. Charity Mataruka, a beneficiary of the Eye Camp. She shared, “It had been years since I last saw clearly. I had double and blurred vision with no solution due to financial constraints. But this surgery has changed everything—I can now function independently.”

Mrs. Mataruka’s story highlights the transformative impact of restoring sight and renewing independence. Old Mutual Zimbabwe is dedicated to not only restoring vision but also empowering individuals to reclaim their dignity. This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainable change and community empowerment, creating a brighter future for all.
